Oxytocin Dosage & Reconstitution

Pitocin. Work out exactly what to draw for your own mix, see the doses used in research, and follow a week-by-week plan. Evidence tier: clinical.

Start very low and titrate by response. Sensitivity to oxytocin varies enormously between individuals. Some people respond strongly to a dose that others barely notice, and the response is not predictable from body weight or from experience with other compounds. Overdosing carries real risk — this is not a compound where more is better, and the effects of too much are not simply a stronger version of the effects of the right amount.

What we suggest instead. Begin well below the lowest figure in the table, give yourself time to see how you respond, and only move up if there is a clear reason to. If you notice a strong reaction at a low dose, that is your answer — stay there or go lower rather than working up to a number on a chart.

Looks good. Draw to 6 units on a 1 mL syringe. That is an easy amount to measure, and this vial gives you 50 doses.

Where this plan came from
A published protocol
Where this came from: The peptidedosages.com 5 mg protocol - 100 mcg daily, rising by 100 mcg every two weeks. Doses are in micrograms, not IU. Most published human work is intranasal; the subcutaneous figures here come from an educational protocol rather than a trial of this route. Oxytocin clears quickly, so effects are acute per dose.

A nonapeptide hormone studied for social bonding, stress, appetite and pain modulation. Dosed in micrograms, not IU - a 5 mg vial in 3 mL gives about 1.67 mg/mL, so one syringe unit is roughly 16.7 mcg. Most published human work is intranasal; the subcutaneous figures here come from educational protocols.

Common Questions — Oxytocin

How much bacteriostatic water do I add to a 5 mg vial of Oxytocin?

Adding 3 mL of bacteriostatic water to a 5 mg vial gives 1.67 mg/mL. That is the mix every number on this page is worked out from — change the water figure in the calculator and all the draw amounts update.

What dose of Oxytocin is used in research?

Published and reported figures for Oxytocin run from 12 IU to 40 IU, typically single dose. This site lists each figure with the source it came from rather than giving a single recommended number.

How many units on the syringe is a 12 iu dose of Oxytocin?

At 10 mg/mL, a 12 iu dose is 40 units on a 1 mL U-100 insulin syringe. One vial at that mix gives about 1 doses.

How strong is the evidence behind these Oxytocin doses?

Oxytocin is graded clinical. Human trial or approved-label dosing has been published for this compound. We grade every compound on this site so you can weigh the numbers accordingly — the full method is on our editorial policy page.
